How the loan amount is worked out

Loan amount = net weight (g) × rate per gram × LTV

  1. Weigh the gold. Use the net weight in grams — the gold alone, without stones or other attachments.
  2. Pick the purity. 22K (916) or 18K (750); the hallmark on your jewellery tells you which.
  3. Value the gold. Multiply the weight by the IBJA rate per gram for that purity.
  4. Apply the LTV. A lender lends a share of that value. We use 75%; lenders may offer more or less.

Gold loan calculator questions

How is the gold loan amount calculated?

The loan amount is the value of your gold multiplied by the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio. The value is the net weight of the gold in grams multiplied by the rate per gram for its purity. For example, at a 75% LTV, gold worth ₹1,00,000 can support a loan of up to ₹75,000. This calculator uses the IBJA rate and a 75% LTV, so treat the result as an estimate.

What is LTV in a gold loan?

LTV, or loan-to-value, is the share of your gold's value that a lender is willing to lend. RBI caps it on a sliding scale — 85% for loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% up to ₹5 lakh and 75% above that — and each lender chooses its own LTV within the cap. A higher LTV means a bigger loan against the same gold, but not necessarily a better deal, so compare the interest rate and fees too.

Which gold rate does the calculator use?

The latest closing rate published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) for the purity you choose. It is a benchmark rate that excludes GST and making charges, so it is lower than the price your jeweller quotes. You can see the full table on the Gold Rate Today page.

What is the difference between 22K and 18K gold for a loan?

Purity is how much of the metal is actual gold: 22K (916) is about 91.6% gold and 18K (750) is 75%. The same weight of 22K gold is worth more than 18K, so it supports a larger loan. Check the hallmark on your jewellery, and count only the gold — a lender deducts the weight of stones and other attachments.

Is the result the amount I will actually get?

No, it is an estimate. The lender tests and weighs your gold in person and decides the final value, LTV, interest rate and charges. Processing fees and other charges are not deducted from the figure shown here.

Is the gold loan calculator free?

Yes. Using the calculator costs nothing and you are under no obligation to apply for a loan.
